The Singapore Science Centre is one of those interesting places a local would recommend a tourist or guest to visit.
Inaugurated in December 10, 1997, the center aims to provide a fun and engaging science experience. Very appealing especially to kids and youths, the center has showcased many fantastic exhibitions; Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Pixar:20 years of Animation, CSI: the experience, Fun with Dinosaurs, The Robot Zoo and more.
With 800+ display exhibits , be sure you have time in your hands to explore each gallery and enjoy the feature movie at the renowned Omni-Theatre that uses an Imax technology. (As of this writing, the Omni-Theatre is closed for renovation til Mar 2011)
In-house Exhibits
Both young and old enjoy their time at the Singapore Science Center. Upon entering, they are fascinated by the permanent exhibits that will welcome them.
Waterworks has a gallery inside and a water fun play outside. Be sure to bring along some towels, extra clothes or attire for water play if you want to enjoy this place. The gallery explains facts such as the water purification process in Singapore.
iSpace features the Infocomm technology as it is used today and in the past. Not only is it informative, the visitors will also be challenged to think beyond what technology can offer now. It is an inspiration to do more experiments for the future generation.
Designed for the younger crowd of 4-12 year olds, the interactive Discovery Zone gets down to the business of engaging the children as they learn. Simple physical challenges, some movie-making experience and watching chicks hatch are just some the very interesting feature of this gallery.
For marine-lovers, the Marine Alcove is a treat. You can get up-close to some familiar and rare aquatic creatures. An underwater sound device allows you to hear the sounds the fishes make when they move.
The Primary Science Learning Experience (PSLE) is a fun way to learn the science curriculum taught in school. Topics like Energy, Simple Machines and Forces are presented in an almost 3D way that any primary school student would enjoy discovering. For school field trips, the apparatuses and demo kits can be loaned to teachers as they journey together with their students in this gallery.
The Mind’s eye gallery will blow your mind as tricks unfold before you. Some call it magic but it's only the fun optical illusions that both entertain and tickle the curiosity. Explanations are available for each illusion so you won’t leave dazed in wonderment.
Auditory illusions can be found at the Sound Exhibition. You will learn how sound travels through your ears, sound waves and discover the musician in you. Check out the humongous Hot Air Organ that uses heat to produce sound.
Wanna learn more about global warming and El Nino? The Climate Change gallery focuses on the different states of the earth in terms of weather patterns. Learn how these changes affect different industries like agriculture and health. The gallery also encourages visitors to give their suggestions on how to make things better and adjust in with the ever changing environment.
