Budget airlines came in as a breath of Fresh air and brought in a certain new culture where people stopped paying too much attention to travel comforts where the duration of travel is less than 5 hours.
They would rather spend more money in their destinations. Low cost airlines have always been around but now there was a bigger need with the competition from the budget airlines. Some low cost airlines like Bangkok airways also have some great deals into Singapore.
Now cheaper flights need not necessarily means budget flights, if you keep updated and watch the airline websites for promotions you will surprised to find some deals sometimes that are cheaper than flying with Tiger Airways or other budget airways.

Pros and Cons
When the choice is budget travel, we also have to remember that they do come with a few pros and cons. Some of the cons are baggage restrictions, un-flexible cancellation or flight change policies. You also cannot book transfers when you fly budget, they fly point to point as we talked about earlier with regards to their ticketing. Most budget airlines are also smaller planes so there is a constriction of space. The lack of too much leg space can become very uncomfortable when flying for a bit over 2 to 3 hours. If you are willing to compromise on all these then take full advantage of the obvious pro - which is cheap travel.
