SINGAPORE: All 23 elevated MRT stations on the East-West line are now fitted with half-height screen doors.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said the remaining 10 stations on the North-South line will get the doors installed by June 2012.

The 1.6-metre high doors were introduced in 2009 to enhance commuter safety.

LTA said work has started on the remaining 10 stations on the elevated MRT stations on the North-South line.

The stations are: Admiralty, Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang, Khatib, Kranji, Marsiling, Sembawang, Woodlands, Yew Tee and Yio Chu Kang.

Yishun, Bukit Batok and Bukit Gombak stations on the North-South line have been fitted with half-height screen doors.

It takes between four and six months to install platform screen doors at each station, as works can only be carried out during non-operational hours between 1.30am and 4am.

LTA said it has worked closely with its contractors and SMRT within the constraints to complete the installations as quickly as possible without compromising safety.
